How Do I Prepare for My Maternity Shoot?

Here are some tips to help you prepare for your maternity shoot:

1.Choose Your Outfits Wisely – Pick outfits that highlight your bump and make you feel beautiful and confident. Soft, flowing dresses and neutral colors work beautifully for maternity photos, but don’t be afraid to bring a few options to add variety to the shoot. Pants, crop tops, jeans, sports bras, and oversized blazers all photograph well.

2. Consider the Location – Do you want your session to take place at home, in a studio, or outdoors? Choose a location that makes you feel comfortable and reflects your pregnancy style. When selecting a location, your outfit choices will play a big role. For indoor sessions, you have more flexibility with outfits. Outdoors, people often go for flowing dresses, while studio photography offers more variety in outfit styles and the option for props.

3. Hair and Makeup – If you plan to have professional hair and makeup done, schedule it ahead of time. If you’re doing it yourself, keep the look simple and natural. I always recommend booking professional hair and makeup for the morning of your session to ensure you look your best in the photos. Also, consider getting a manicure and pedicure the day before your session for an extra touch of polish.

4. Rest Up – Get a good night’s sleep before the shoot to feel energized and refreshed. Hydrate well and avoid any stressful activities leading up to the session. Drinking plenty of water in the days prior will help with hydration and reduce any potential swelling.

5. Bring Your Partner or Family – If you’re having a family maternity shoot, invite your partner and any older children to join in. It’s a wonderful way to capture the excitement as you await your little one.
